Web servers at risk, says BKAV
BKAV on July 3 warned that a critical flaw in Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) across supported versions of Windows is affecting about 32 percent of the Vietnam 's Government web servers. The vulnerability allows attackers to remotely execute a code on an unpatched system that is Remote Desktop enabled, the Hanoi-based company said. Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol, which is disabled by default on newer Windows installations, allows users to remotely connect to Windows' desktops or servers, and is widely used by enterprises. Microsoft in March asked system administrators to apply its latest update as a "special priority" given the nature of the flaw, but about one-third of Government web servers in Vietnam are still vulnerable, BKAV said. According to the internet security firm, attackers may well develop a code similar to the Morto worm that appeared late last year. E-commerce has brought new opportunities for tourism development. However, Vietnamese travel firms have not paid appropriate attention to the issue. A Google’s survey has found out that over 98 percent of travelers make online searching before booking tours. Internet – the effective marketing tool still being ignored In 2010 and the first months of 2011, it was estimated that there were some 600,000-800,000 searches for resorts in Vietnam via Internet a month. In peak months, the figure was up to one million. Meanwhile, there were 2-3 million searches for tourism products and itineraries a month. Especially, the number of searches for tours was the highest, about 5-7 million a month. The Web in Travel (WIT) has predicted that by 2013, the revenue from online hotel room rate booking, tour booking and air ticket booking in Asia Pacific would account for up to 50 percent of total revenue.
