HCM City Electricity Company director retires over meter scam (25-07-2005) HCM CITY — The director of HCM City’s Electricity Company (HEC) announced his resignation on Saturday following media criticism over the company’s purchase and installation of malfunctioning meters. "I regret that the meter issue has caused losses to customers and affected the prestige of the HEC," said company director Le Minh Hoang at a press conference held by Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) in HCM City on Saturday. The chairman of EVN’s management board, Dang Hung, apologised to customers and pledged to compensate them for all losses. "The leaders of HEC, a subsidiary of EVN, committed errors in purchase and installation of the single-phase electronic meters, resulting in customer protests," Hung said at the press conference. Electricity company sees first day of trading in HCM City (10-08-2007) HCM CITY — Nearly 33,000 shares of the Viet Nam Electricity Construction Joint Stock Co were traded yesterday when it became the 111th company listed on the HCM Stock Exchange (HOSE). The price was established at VND52,000 for the first trading day of the company, which is coded as VNE, on the board. The Da Nang-headquartered corporation has a charter capital of VND320 billion (US$20 million) with the State representing almost 30 per cent. It plans to increase its capital to VND580 billion by next year’s end. The corporation focuses on carrying out power and construction projects, producing electricity poles, as well as investing in real estate, hotel and tourism businesses, according to chairman and general director Doan Duc Hong. Japan’s electric company to increase production in Vietnam
The Japan-based Tabuchi Electronic Co. Ltd., a renowned manufacturer of power components and transformers, will invest 1.5 billion JPY (12.1 million USD) in building a workshop in its plant in Vietnam’s northern Bac Ninh province. Under the company’s plan to increase production in Vietnam, the workshop will be able to manufacture an additional 60 million units in 2016, up 20 percent from the plant’s current output. Among the products, power components used in printers and photocopiers will be sold to office machine manufacturers which are looking to move their production from China to Southeast Asian countries. Meanwhile, electric automotive components will be exported to Japanese companies in Thailand. Tabuchi also plans to transfer production technology to its plant in Vietnam. Lai Chau hydropower plant produces over 294 million kWh of electricity
Since its first turbine commenced generating power on December 14, 2015 (three months earlier than scheduled), the plant has produced more than 294 million kWh of electricity. Due to the favourable accumulation of water on reservoirs, the plant has mobilised efforts to operate the turbine’s capacity at its highest level, amidst hydropower reservoirs in central and southern regions suffering water shortages due to the El Niño phenomenon. The plant aims to commence operations of the second turbine by late June and the third by November, striving to put the whole facility into operation by December this year, a year ahead of schedule. Up until now, completion of the project has reached over 70%, in which construction completed has reached 100%.
